HURON — Does your chili receive rave reviews when you make it for family and friends?
Or do they tell you that your barbeque abilities are above and beyond others?
If so, perhaps you may want to see how your chili and meat smoking skills stack up against others at the F.A.T. Friday Chili Challenge and Backyard BBQ People’s Choice contest, which is part of the Original S.D. BBQ Championships taking place June 2-3 this spring, on the S.D. State Fairgrounds in conjunction with Wheel Jam.
And if cooking is not your thing, maybe you would rather come be a People’s Choice voter?
You can come taste all of the chili you want Friday night for $5, while being a Saturday Backyard BBQ People’s Choice taster is $5 for 10-and-under, and $10 for ages 11 and up.
The Chili Challenge has two divisions, individual and group. Businesses and organizations are encouraged to enter the group division.
The registration fee for the Chili Challenge is $20 and offers payouts in both overall judged as well as people’s choice competition.
The payout in each division for people’s choice is $75 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place.
For the overall judged competition, first place receives $250, second place gets $125 and third place takes home $50.
Have you been sharpening your BBQ and meat smoking skills this past year?
The Backyard BBQ is open to all skill levels and is a great entry level contest and to connect with other BBQ enthusiasts.
Entering is only $20 and all of the meat is provided to the teams.
The four meat divisions are:
1) pork butt — donated by S.D. Pork Producers
The payout per meat division for the people’s choice judging is $125 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place. The payout per meat division for the blind judging is $150 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place.
