Trucker given suspended term for manslaughter in Wolsey crash

Posted

HURON – The truck driver in a fatal crash north of Wolsey last November has been given a suspended prison term for second-degree manslaughter.
Cedric Beauvil of Miama, Fla., was driving a 2015 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer eastbound on Highway 14 when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the north junction of Highway 14.
The truck collided with a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup that was northbound on Highway 281.

The pickup driver, Kennedy Tomsha, 18, of Tulare, was killed and her 18-year-old female passenger sustained life-threatening injuries.
Circuit Judge Kent Shelton sentenced Beauvil to five years in the state penitentiary. He suspended the sentence and placed the defendant on three years of supervised probation with court services.
Beauvil must serve 90 days in county jail with work release, with 11 days credit for time previously served. He must pay a fine of $4,000 plus court costs and remain a law-abiding citizen for 360 days.
Also, he must give four speeches to his local high schools within three years, making it abundantly clear what happens with distracted driving.
Second-degree manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
