WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Viorene McEldowney, 94, of Wessington Springs, passed away Monday, December 31, 2018, at the Weskota Manor.  
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Saturday January 5, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wessington Springs. Burial will be in St. Wifrid Catholic Cemetery at Woonsocket. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church with a scripture service and rosary at 7 p.m.
Viorene Ann McEldowney was born June 24, 1924, in Jerauld County to Nicholas and Anna (Welter) Wolf. She was united in marriage to Raymond Dean in April 1945. In 1955, she married Frank McEldowney. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar Society, and American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, Diane Rutschke of Eagan, Minn., Nancy Erickson of Scappoose, Ore., Mary Morrison of Sioux Falls, Cathy Holzwarth of Wessington Springs, Janet Carlson of Naperville, Ill., Teresa McEldowney of Aurora, Colo., Deb Buck of Sommerset, Jim McEldowney of North Bend, Wash., Tom McEldowney of Castlewood, Dennis McEldowney of Wessington Springs, and Pat Lonneman of Watertown; 29 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; siblings, Melvin, and Luella; and grandson Austin McEldowney.
