Area schools prepare for Class A state meet

SIOUX FALLS — Four area schools will be represented at the Class A South Dakota State Track Meet to be held at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.

The Clark/Willow Lake girls’ squad has four athletes and four relays that have qualified, with the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, and 1600-meter medley relay all qualifying for the state meet. On the individual side, Kamryn Nesheim qualified for the 3200-meter run, Sara Thonfold qualified in the 100-meter hurdles, and Shelby Begeman and Zoe Nichols each qualified in the high jump.

The Cyclone boys will have two participants as Tyson Huber qualified in the discus and Michael Severson qualified in shot put.

The Miller Rustler girls will have just two participants, with Gracen Werdel (400-meter dash) and Joanlei Baker (discus) representing the school. The boys have a much larger group, with two relays and three individuals qualified. The 4x200 and medley relays both qualified for Miller, along with Alex Schumacher in the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs. Isaak Hunter qualified in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Pierce Baumberger will participate in the 3200-meter run.

The lone Redfield representative will be Elijah Morrisette in the shot put.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket has a number of individuals qualified in multiple events, led by Liz Boschee, who qualified in the 100-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles, the high jump, and the javelin, where she holds the third-best throw of the season in Class A.

Fellow Blackhawks Jeffery Boschee and Cody Slykhuis each have qualified for multiple events. Boschee will compete in the long jump and high jump while Slykhuis will run in the 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles and participate in the triple jump.

The event will run Thursday through Saturday, May 23-25.
