REDFIELD — The James Valley Christian Vikings won the girls’ team title and tied with Deuel for the boys’ team title Thursday at the Redfield Cross Country Invitational.

The Vikings and Deuel each recorded a score of 30 in the team mark for the boys, with Deuel taking the win on tiebreaker. Frederick Area was just behind at 31 and Dupree logged 32 for fourth. Faulkton and North Central tied for fifth with 49.

Other Heartland teams included Sunshine Bible Academy (10th, 84), Clark/Willow Lake (13, 137), Redfield (14, 142), and Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (15, 144).

The Lady Vikings posted a team mark of 17 to take the girls’ team title. Deuel finished second at 21, with Clark/Willow Lake coming in third at 26.

Wolsey-Wessington scored 66 to place eighth and Redfield was ninth with 82.

Tayshaun Cudmore of Dupree took the boys’ individual medal with a time of 16:50.12. JVC’s Dax Frandsen came in second at 17:01. Third went to Dupree’s Spencer Olsen at 17:02.05.

Korbin Stark of Faulkton and Caden Hourigan of Deuel finished fourth and fifth.

Brooks McPeak of Highmore-Harrold placed sixth with a time of 17:28.85, Kaden Ober of JVC finished in 17:44.49 to come in tenth, JVC’s Tayne Herrmann finished 21st at 18:57.02 and SBA’s Jimmy Burma took 22nd with a time of 19:04.47.

Northwestern’s Ella Boekelheide broke the tape in the girls’ varsity race with a time of 18:15.90. Kamryn Nesheim of Clark/Willow Lake placed second with a time of 19:14.66. Deuel’s Jayce Hourigan ran 19:34.01 to place third.

JVC placed the next two runners, with Hadasah Olson running 19:37.03 for fourth and Daril Frandsen finishing in 19:58.95 for fifth.

Kendal Uttecht of Wolsey-Wessington finished eighth (20:19.43), Andee Frandsen of JVC took 14th with a 20:54.56 time, and Clark/Willow Lake had the next three area runners to finish, with Cadence Bochek (16th, 20:56.26), Emma Bochek (17th, 21:08.53), and Hadley Gjerde (22nd, 21:40.47). Lainey Goertz finished 24th with a time of 21:52.78.
