Baltic, Flandreau claim titles at MC/M Invitational

SALEM — The Baltic Bulldogs took the boys’ championship and the Flandreau Flier girls’ team topped the girls’ standings at the Montrose/McCook Central Invitational Tuesday at the McCook County Country Club.

Flandreau took the girls’ crown with 17 team points, putting all three of its scorers in the top 11 on the day.

Kimball/White Lake was second with 23 points, edging Colman-Egan by two points.

Individually, Faith Wiese of Flandreau was first across the line in a time of 20:11.11. Freeman Academy’s Jada Koerner was second and Ella Pollreisz of Ethan/Parkston was third.

Heartland athletes competing found Mallory Carlson of Iroquois/Lake Preston finishing 20th in the field, while Selah Hirschkorn of De Smet finishied 24th. Hannah Terkildsen of Sanborn Central was 26th and Wessington Springs runners Alexis Roesler and Abby Kolousek finished 30th and 31st.

The boys’ race was much closer, as the Bulldogs edged Ethan Parkston by a single point, 30-31. Freeman Academy/Marion was third with 44.

Sanborn Central finished 9th as a team with 79 points, with Iroquois/Lake Preston taking 12th and De Smet came in 17th.

Tavin Schroeder of Freeman Academy broke the tape in 17:05.66 to take individual honors. Canistota’s Josiah Schroeder finished second and Josh Fletch of Dell Rapids took third.

Jeff Boschee led the Heartland finishers, as the Sanborn Central runner took 10th on the day. Tobias Arbeiter of Iroquois/Lake Preston was 16th and Sam Baruth of SC finished 32 in the race.
