HURON — The Beadle County Commission held a brief meeting on Tuesday morning during which they approved payments for work done on two structures in the county.

Graves Construction was approved for a $59,779.20 payment for the work on structure No. 03-292-030. A payment was also approved to Whiteside Township for a matching grant through rural access infrastructure funds for $42,219.01.

County highway superintendent Jason Fritzsche discussed upcoming changes possible with the tractor rental service that the county has utilized for the past few years. Fritzsche discussed making a plan to purchase at least one tractor in the near future to combat potential changes in rental availability for the county.

The commission also met with Dave Jensen, the county’s Emergency Management Director and Weed Supervisor. He discussed the current firewall and phone system setup within the county and the need for upgrades for security purposes. The commission approved pursuing the quoted upgrades while also holding discussion regarding putting future technology security costs as an ongoing budget line.

Commissioners also approved the hire of Cody Friesen as a jailer.

The commission adjourned the public meeting to conclude the day’s business with an executive session.

The next county commission meeting is Aug. 27 at 9 a.m. in the commission room on the second floor of the courthouse.
