Cowgirls vie for Heartland 4-H Rodeo Ambassador titles

HURON — A total of eight young women will participate in this year’s Heartland 4-H Rodeo Ambassador contest on Friday, July 19, as part of the Heartland Rodeo.

The contest consists of three parts — Impromptu Speech, Interview and Horsemanship.

The Heartland 4-H Rodeo takes place July 20 and 21 at the 4H Rodeo grounds east of Huron on Highway 14, and each of the Ambassador contestants is required to participate in a minimum of one eventh throughout the weekend’s competition.

Heartland 4H Senior Ambassador contestants are Gracelynn Decker, 15, from Carpenter; Lindsey Mehlberg, 15, from Raymond and Ava Nelson, 17, who is from Lennox.

Contestants for the Junior Heartland 4-H Rodeo Ambassador are Baylee Rostyne, 12, of Wessington Springs; Cheyenne Hohn, 11, from Ethan; Kelsa Foreman, 10, of Orient; Marnie Symens, 11, from Lake Norden and Jaycee Reuer, 11, who hails from Bowdle.

Awards for 2024 Heartland 4H Rodeo Ambassador, first runner up, second runner up and third runner up are to be presented on Saturday, July 20.

The senior contest winner will continue on to compete at the state level for South Dakota 4-H Rodeo Ambassador.
