Huron 13/14U drops final three games at Cubby's Classic

BROOKINGS – The Huron 13/14U team finished a tough Cubby’s Classic tournament, dropping all five games, including three on Saturday and Sunday in Brookings.

The first game Saturday was an 11-7 loss to the Dakota Tigers 14U team, plagued by five errors.

Sean Janes tossed all five innings, allowing 11 runs (only two earned runs) on 10 hits and three walks, striking out two.

Tyce Huber had a pair of singles and a walk and also stole two bases.

Parker Bischoff and Quincey Rashaad each had a single and a pair of walks.

Jimmie Martin had a pair of singles. Jayden Ryman was hit by pitch twice. Janes had a single and a walk and stole a base. Ryker Shelton added a steal.

The second game on Saturday for Huron was a 15-1 loss to Coast 2 Coast Cubs of Sioux Falls.

A seven-run outburst in the third inning put the Cubs up 10-0 and they never looked back.

Rashaad opened the game on the mound, pitching 2 1/3 innings, allowing nine runs on seven hits and five walks, striking out one. Huber closed out the game with the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on three hits and six walks, striking out one.

Jackson Ford had two of Huron’s three hits, knocking a double and a single.

Volga Select 14U defeated Huron Sunday in the Tigers’ final game of the tournament, 9-1.

Martin opened the game on the mound, allowing eight runs over 3 1/3 innings on seven hits and two walks, striking out six. Noah Koops got the final two outs, allowing a run on two hits, striking out one.

Martin had a double, a single, and a stolen base. Janes had a pair of singles.

Ford had a double and Bischoff had a stolen base.

Huron will take a 3-12-1 record into Thursday’s home matchup with Brandon Valley at 5 p.m. at Klock Field.
