Huron 13/14U falls twice in Cubby's Classic opening day

BROOKINGS — The Huron 13/14U team fell in its opening game Friday morning to the Brookings Black 14U team by the score of 18-7 at Bob Shelden Field in Brookings.

Brookings came out with a huge 11-run top of the first inning. From that point, Huron played even ball with Brookings Black, but could get no closer, falling 18-7.

Colt Culver pitched the entire game for Huron, throwing 3 2/3 innings, allowing 18 runs on 18 hits and six walks, striking out four.

Leadoff hitter Parker Bischoff had three singles. Jackson Ford had a double, a single, and a walk, driving in four runs for Huron.

Quincey Rashaad had a pair of singles while Ryker Shelton had a single, a walk, and a pair of stolen bases.

Sean Janes recorded a stolen base.

In the second game, Huron fell to the Alexandria Cardinals 14U team 10-0 as Alexandria’s Carter Mayer stifled the Huron offense, pitching five shutout innings.

Bischoff opposed Mayer on the mound for Huron, going four innings, allowing ten runs on ten hits and five walks, striking out one.

Jimmie Martin was the only Huron hitter to reach base twice, recording two singles and stealing a base.

Huron (3-9-1) will complete pool play today with games at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., before playing in a placing game on Sunday.
