Huron 16U captures win in Sioux Falls

Posted

SIOUX FALLS — The Huron 16U Tigers had a scheduled doubleheader with the Sioux Falls Post 15 16U Black team in Sioux Falls Wednesday.

While the weather clipped that to just one game, the Tigers scored enough in that one game to cover a pair of games, winning 19-0.

The two teams were scoreless in the first inning before the visitors erupted for 13 runs in the second inning. Huron would add runs in the  third and fifth to cap out the 19-0 victory.

Jeremy Hofer had a strong start on the mound, going five shutout innings, allowing three hits and six walks, striking out nine.

The Tigers ended up with 27 baserunners in the game. Hofer backed up his own cause with five hits, including a double. Leadoff man Gavin Waldner also got on base five times with three singles and a pair of walks.

Chase Schuchhardt had a single, two walks, and was hit by pitch, one of five Huron hitters who were plunked during the game. Elijah Shreeve had a double, single, and a walk.

Nolan Stahly had a pair of walks. Zach Scheer had a walk and was hit by pitch while Oakley Anderson had a single and was hit by pitch.

Carter Porisch had a double.

The Tigers (4-3) are off until Monday when they travel to Mitchell for a doubleheader, beginning at 4 p.m.
