Huron 16u team sweeps season opener

HURON — The Huron Post 7 16u team was able to come away with a pair of victories to open the season over Aberdeen Smittys 16u Friday night at Klock Field.

In the opener, the Huron squad took a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning, when Aberdeen scored a pair of runs, but the Tigers responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and added on to come away with an 8-2 victory.

Elijah Shreeve opened the game on the mound, allowing two runs over six innings on seven hits and no walks, striking out eight. Jeremy Hofer pitched a scoreless inning of relief to close out the game with a pair of strikeouts.

Nolan Stahly had a big game at the plate with three singles and a walk, adding two stolen bases for the Huron first baseman. Anderson Porisch reached base three times with a triple, a walk, and a hit by pitch. Oakley Anderson drew a pair of walks and Carter Porisch had a walk and was hit by pitch.

Tyce Huber swiped a pair of bases for Huron in the win.

In the nightcap, Huron took an early 3-0 lead after the first inning and had to survive a last-gasp rally by Smittys to come away with an 8-5 victory.

Anderson went six innings on the mound for Huron, allowing one unearned run on four hits and two walks, striking out nine. Chase Schuchhardt took the ball in the seventh inning and allowed four runs on a hit, three walks, and three hit batsmen. He also struck out one.

Leadoff man Gavin Waldner set the table for Huron, reaching base three times with a single and a pair of walks and stealing a base. Anderson Porisch had a triple and a walk while Hofer had a double and a single.

Carter Porisch also had a single and a walk.

The 16u club will host Renner tonight beginning at 5 p.m. at Memorial Ballpark.
