HURON — The Huron Tigers hosted the final track and field event of the season before the State Meet next week, as the Mark Wendelgass Relays were held Thursday at Tiger Stadium.
The meet, which recognizes longtime Tiger coach and Activities Director Mark Wendelgass
Wendelgass Relays gave the six competing teams a last chance to meet qualifying times or distances for the state meet.
The Huron girls’ team got a win in the 4x800 meter relay, as Chloe Carr, Josie Vlieger, Lily Meyer and Tatum Peterson took the win. Alyse Davis led a trio of Huron javelin throwers with a 111-foot, 9-inch throw, which was good for second place. Hamtyn Heinz was fourth and Hylton Heinz was fifth for the Tigers.
Zaniyah Lanier ran a 12.91 to finish second in the 100, Carr finished sixth in the 800-meter run and Lizzy Heinen earned a fifth place finish in the high jump.
Tyson Pfitzer led the Tiger boys with a win in the triple jump, as he hopped, skipped and jumped 40-2.5, then added a third place finish in the javelin and an 8th place finish in the discus.
Bryan Ramirez was second in the shot put (49.4) and third in the discus (137-1) and TJ Lein finished eighth in the 1600 meter run. Thackary Hansen had a second place effort in the 100, as he was edged by .06 seconds in the finals, then came back to claim fifth in the 400 meters.
