To the Editor:

This week is National 4-H week! As we celebrate, it is a great time to realize the impact 4-H has had in our community and me personally! 4-H has played a major role in developing my skills such as leadership, responsibility, character, community service and public speaking. There are so many different programs ranging from showing livestock to robotics, baking, photography, crafts, fashion review and much more.

4-H has made such an impact on my life in ways than I could never imagine. I began 4-H when I was eight years old and invested the next years learning all that 4-H has to offer. I became a State 4-H Ambassador served on the ambassador team for three years. As small group leader and becoming the State 4-H Ambassador President of the SkillsX camp was the greatest blessing. I was able to gain leadership skills by communicating with my team and the delegates during the camp.

Another aspect of the State 4-H Ambassador program is shadowing a legislator during 4-H Day at the Capitol. I participated for three years and each year gained more insight about how our state government operates. I was able to meet and converse with my local legislators about the importance of 4-H and the benefit it has had in my life.

The friendships that I gained through 4-H have largely impacted my life. The memories I created with them will never be forgotten. In many of my friendships we celebrated each other’s successes and supported each other’s failures. Through the various activities and camps I have attended, I was able to create a network of friends from around the state.

I challenge every student to explore what 4-H has to offer in your county and all the opportunities to further your growth and learning through 4-H!
