HURON — The 15th seeded Huron Tigers baseball team was knocked out of the spring baseball playoffs on Saturday, as the No. 2 Sioux Falls Lincoln Patriots claimed a 14-0 victory to take the best-of-three series in two games at the Sanford Sports Complex in Sioux Falls.
Lincoln put up a run in the first inning and a pair in the second inning off Huron starter Jack Pederson, but the Tigers stayed in the game, getting opportunities on offense but not pushing around.
Then the fifth inning happened.
A single and a pair of hit batters loaded the bases for the Patriots, then a wild pitch scored the first run of the inning.
In the same at bat, a sacrifice fly scored another run. A double, a walk, and an error allowed three more runs to score. By the time the Tigers recorded their next out, the score had ballooned to 14-0.
Pederson allowed six runs in four innings on seven hits and two walks, striking out two. Brady Feenstra pitched the final inning, allowing eight runs on a hit and five walks.
Huron’s defense didn’t help out the arms, coughing up six errors, and the Patriots scored seven of their runs unearned.
Bubba Peterson was the only Tiger to reach base twice on offense on a pair of walks. Peyton Bischoff clubbed a double.
The Tigers finish the season 4-14.
