Miller, Clark/Willow Lake girls open strong in Class B

BROOKINGS — Miller and Clark/Willow Lake are second and third, respectively, after the opening round of the Class B State Girls’ Golf Tournament on Monday at Edgebrook Golf Course.

Defending state champion Chester sits on top the team standings after the first day of the two-day event with a 250.

Miller is second at 257, followed by Clark/Willow Lake at 275. Jones County and Burke shared the fourth spot with scores of 277.

Chester’s Jadyn McDonald carded a 76 during the first 18 holes of play to carry a slim lead over Jayce Pugh of Miller, who sits at 77, into the final 18 holes of play. Brynn Roehrich of Clark/Willow Lake was third at 79, followed by Olivia Mikkelsen of Potter County at 81.

Kamri Kittleson of Jones County and Olivia Olson of Sully Buttes shared the fifth spot with scores of 83.

Kaihlyn Anderberg of Miller used a score of 85 to share the seventh spot after the opening round.

Sydney Asmuss capped the scoring lineup for Miller with a 95, which placed her in a four-way tie for 32nd.

Mallory Nelson of Clark/Willow Lake shared the 37th spot with a 97, whiel teammate Jalen Hohm turned in a 99 to share the 46th spot.

Olivia Knox of Doland also carded a 99, while Belle Niederbaumer of James Valley Christian was a stroke back.

Harper Anderson and Brooke Jennings had scores of 103 and 104, respectively, for De Smet, while Kendall Cermak finished at 106 for Highmore-Harrold and Peyton Lee shot a 114 for Clark/Willow Lake.

The final 18 holes of play will be held today, starting at 8 a.m.
