HURON — Huron Post 7 struggled to put any runners on base throughout the entire evening, dropping a doubleheader to Harrisburg Legion Gold on Monday at Memorial Ballpark by scores of 7-0 and 11-1.

In the opener, Harrisburg lefty Braxton Kusler came one out away from a no-hitter, as Huron’s Layne Wenzel collected Huron’s lone hit of the game with two outs in the seventh inning. Kusler would strike out 13 Post 7 hitters without walking any.

Wenzel opened the night on the mound for Huron, allowing six runs on four hits and four walks over 4 1/3 innings, striking out two. Tommie Martin came in to throw the next 1 2/3 innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits, striking out two.

Bubba Peterson tossed a scoreless final frame, striking out one and walking one.

In the second game, the visitors scored in every inning en route to an 11-1 victory.

The Tigers knotted the score at one in the first inning as Peterson led off the game with a double for Huron and Jackson Mattke followed with a single to score Peterson. Post 7 would have one more baserunner the rest of the game, however, in the loss.

Jack Pederson got the start for Huron, allowing seven runs over four innings on seven hits and two walks while striking out a pair.

Logan Leyendecker tossed one inning, allowing two runs on a hit and two walks, while Tanner Gilbert put up the same line in the next inning on the mound.

Post 7 hosted Aberdeen Smittys on Tuesday and will participate in the Gopher Classic in Minnesota beginning Friday.
