Post 7 drops pair of games against Yankton

HURON — The Huron Post 7 baseball team opened the 2024 season with a doubleheader Tuesday at Klock Field against Yankton Post 12, dropping both sides of the doubleheader.

In the opener, Yankton jumped out with nine runs over the first three innings and Huron struggled against Yankton pitcher Samuel Gokie, falling 11-1.

Gokie gave Post 12 six innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits and a walk, striking out five Post 7 hitters.

Anderson Porisch took the hill to open for Post 7, completing two innings, allowing seven runs on four hits and five walks. Tommie Martin pitched the final four innings in relief, allowing four runs on two hits and three walks, striking out two.

No Huron hitter reached base twice. Logan Leyendecker did get a steal.
Post 12 exploded for 10 runs in the second inning and Post 7 committed eight errors en route to a 20-3 loss in the nightcap.

Jack Pedersen opened the game on the hill, pitching 1 1/3 innings, allowing 10 runs, but only two of them earned, on six hits and three walks, striking out one. Leyendecker was the first reliever in from the bullpen, pitching 1 2/3 innings, allowing two unearned runs on a hit and three walks, striking out one.

Tanner Gilbert struck out three over 1 1/3 innings of relief for Huron, but allowed seven runs on three hits and three walks. Branden Flowers closed out the game, getting the final two outs, but allowing a run on four walks, striking out one.

Though the Tigers had seven base runners, no Post 7 hitter reached base twice. Bubba Peterson had a triple.

Post 7 is on the road at the Veteran’s Classic in the Black Hills this weekend.
