HURON – After a rough doubleheader Monday and a rough opener Tuesday, Huron Post 7 rebounded to take the second game of the doubleheader Tuesday against Aberdeen Smittys at Memorial Park Stadium.

In the opener, Aberdeen scored in every inning, including a nine-run explosion in the fourth inning en route to a 16-1 victory.

Brady Feenstra wallowed 11 runs over 3 1/3 innings on 11 hits and two walks, striking out a pair of Smittys hitters. Logan Leyendecker closed out the game, pitching 1 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out one.

Bubba Peterson had a pair of singles. Logan Leyendecker had a double for Post 7.

Smittys jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the top of the fourth inning in the second game, and it seemed as if Post 7 may be headed toward another loss, but Huron got a pair of singles to open the fourth inning from Kolton Ogle and Brady Feenstra, with Ogle taking third on Feenstra’s knock.

Cooper Bischoff lifted a fly ball to center field that scored Ogle and made the score 4-2.

Aberdeen pushed the lead back out to three at 5-2 in the top of the sixth. Huron responded in the bottom of the inning as Jack Pedersen slapped a single, advanced to second base on a passed ball and then advanced to third as Ogle reached on an error by Aberdeen.

Ogle was erased on a stolen base attempt, but Feenstra singled to drive in Pedersen. Feenstra stole second, then advanced to third on a Bischoff ground out and scored on a passed ball to make it 5-4 Aberdeen.

After a scoreless top of the seventh inning, Huron quickly got two outs in the bottom of the inning before Leyendecker slapped a single and Peterson grounded to the third baseman and reached on an error. The same error advanced Leyendecker to third and Peterson to second.

Aberdeen made a pitching change, but Pedersen worked a walk to load the bases. Ogle drew a five-pitch walk to score Leyendecker and tie the score at five. Peterson then scored the winning run on a wild pitch to give Huron the 6-5 victory.

Tommie Martin tossed 3 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks, striking out one. Peterson closed out the game with 3 1/3 innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits and two walks while fanning four Smittys hitters.

Three Post 7 hitters had a pair of hits, led by Ogle, who had two singles and walks while also stealing a base. Feenstra and Tanner Gilbert each had a pair of singles and stole a base.

Pedersen had a single and a walk. Leyendecker had a stolen base.

Huron will take a 6-20 record on the road this weekend to the Gopher Classic, beginning today.
