MITCHELL — The improvement the Huron boys’ tennis team has made was quite evident on Friday during a pair of matches.
The Tigers blanked Madison 9-0 and came up just short in a 5-4 setback against Mitchell.
“It was great to see the boys play so well today,” Huron coach Tim Hedblom said.
Highlighting the match against Madison for the Tigers were wins in tie-breakers by Matthew Thin in No. 2 singles and Thin and Say Poe in No. 3 doubles.
After dropping the opening set 6-4, They rallied to claim the second set 6-5 (3) and force the tie-breaker. Thin emerged with the match using a 10-5 score in the tie-breaker.
After dropping a 7-5 decision in the opening set of the No. 3 doubles match, Thin and Poe used a 7-6 (8) win in the second set to event the match. They then recorded a 10-3 decision in the tie-breaker to collect the victory.
Despite suffering the loss against Mitchell, Hedblom was pleased with what he saw out of his team.
“We lost to Mitchell a week ago, 8-1, so it was great to see the boys come out and play so well today,” he said. “We came up a match short of winning the dual, but we showed that we are making improvements.”
Winning singles matches for the Tigers were Dah Christ Moo at No. 1, Hser Wah at No. 4 and Maner Htoo at No. 6.
“Dah Christ Moo, Hser Wah and Maner Htoo had difficult singles matches and they were able to win in 3rd set tiebreakers,” Hedblom said. “Dah and Maner teamed up to win a big match at flight 1 doubles.”
Huron will travel to face Pierre at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
