Posted

HURON — The Huron Tiger track and field will be well represented in the Class AA State Track and Field Meet, which begins Thursday and continues through Saturday at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls.

Several Tigers have qualified in individual events, by having a top 24 time or distance for the season. Here are the Huron individual participants and their respective events. All relay teams qualify at the AA level in South Dakota.

Girls
While Zaniah Lanier will run in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes for Huron, it is in the field events where the Tigers have the strongest presence.

Elizabeth Heinen has qualified in the high jump, while three Tigers - Aly Davis, Hamtyn Heinz and Hylton Heinz - will all throw the javelin at the state meet. Isabelle Kremer has had solid outings throwing the discus as the season has wound down and Cameron Ruth will seek to earn valuable points in pole vault.

The remainder of the girls’ athletes, including Ava Wambach, Jessalyn Hoyes and Hannah Schoenfelder will all have a hand in relay events, as will Hamtyn Heinz, Lanier and Ruth.

Coach Angie Thomas will have a strong 4x800 meter relay team in the collection of Chloe Carr, Lily meyer, Ellie Puterbaugh, Tatum Peterson and Josie Vlieger.

Boys

The boys team will also have strong representation in the field events, led off by Bryan Ramirez, in both the shot put and discus. Anderson Porisch has qualified in discus as well. Both Tyson Pfitzer and Kolby Hofer will throw the javelin, while Kolton Ogle will high jump and Micah Larsen has qualified in pole vault.

Thackary Hansen will run both the 100 and 200-meter dashes and will cover shorter distances on relay teams, which is where many of the Tiger boys are focused.

Riley Winegar, Shawn Messimore, Holden Hegg, CJ Gainey Jonathan Peterson, Peyton Bischoff and TJ Lein will fill slots in the all of the relays for Thomas.
