HURON — Three area players have been named the Class B All-State Volleyball Team, which was selected by the South Dakota High School Volleyball Coaches Association and announced Monday.
Hitchcock-Tulare junior Katelyn Schroeder was named to the second team along with Wolsey-Wessington senior Lainey Uttecht, while senior Kailynn Dorris of Wolsey-Wessington received honorable mention.
Schroeder amassed 380 kills on 943 of 1,046 spikes to lead the Lady Patriots this season.
“Katelyn made the switch to an outside hitter position this season,” said Hitchcock-Tulare coach Jordan Opp. “Katelyn knew when we needed a hard hit or when she needed to place the ball to score. We looked at her when we needed to score.”
Schroder also recorded 38 aces on 311 of 332 serving this season for Hitchcock-Tulare. She also was 133 of 134 setting with 18 assists, was 385 of 398 on serve receive, had six solo and 27 assisted blocks and tallied 412 digs.
“She is one of the smartest players I have coached and plays at a high intensity. Her consistency in her passing and defense was also evident,” Opp said of Schroder, who received honorable mention on the Class B all-state team as a sophomore and freshman. “Her leadership is second to none and her presence in the lineup makes everyone around her better. She is just a great student athlete and fun to coach!”
Uttecht and Dorris helped Wolsey-Wessington make a return trip to the Class B State Tournament this season.
Uttecht, an outside hitter, finished the season with 251 kills, 579 blocks and 50 ace serves this season.
Dorris, who was an outside hitter and middle hitter, recorded 465 kills, while having 277 digs and 57 ace serves.
“It is an honor to be selected to the All-State team and I feel both Lainey and Kailynn are deserving of this,” Wolsey-Wessington coach Lindy Uttecht said. “They both adjusted to new roles on the team this year and helped lead our team to a second state tournament appearance. I am very proud of them and all they have accomplished the last four years individually and as a team.”
