WESSINGTON David Zerfoss, age 77, of Wessington, passed away quietly at the Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, with his wife by his side.
As per his request, there will be no funeral.
David Lynn Zerfoss was born November 20, 1946, to Metsel and Faye Zerfoss of Wessington. David attended school in Wessington, growing up and spending most of his life in the Wessington area.
David served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1971. While in the Navy, he received the National Defense Service medal and three Bronze Stars while serving in the Vietnam campaign.
On February 4, 1984, David married Janelle King of Wessington. They shared their love for each other by celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in February.
David enjoyed fishing and hunting. He just got his fishing license and was waiting for nice weather so he and Janelle could go dangle a line in the water. David was a life-long member of the American Legion, just receiving his 50-year pin. With his wife, Janelle, they raised cattle, pigs and chickens on their farm, which David dearly loved.
Having shared in his life are his wife, Janelle; one brother, Neil (Jackie) Zerfoss of Edgemont; two sisters, Janice (Larry) Arbogast of Miller and Lynette Hopkins of Wessington; his special sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Robert Lichty of Wessington; and his sister-in-law, Kathy OConnor of Belle Fourche.
David is also survived by his many other in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and his beloved dogs, Lizzy and Stella.
David is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jerold and Roger; and one special brother-in-law, Michael Hopkins.
