MITCHELL The Redfield Dairy Queen baseball team scored first and were in a low-scoring affair through five innings, but a big sixth inning for the Elk Point Colt .45s quickly put distance on the scoreboard of a 7-1 Elk Point victory in the South Dakota State B Amateur Baseball Tournament Thursday in Mitchell.
Redfield got on the board first in the bottom of the second when Keaton Rohlfs laced a one-out single and advanced to second on an error on the play. Brent Osborn then singled and drew a throw to second, which allowed Rohlfs to score and give Redfield a 1-0 lead.
Elk Point scored one in the fourth and then exploded for four in the sixth and a pair in the seventh for their scoring.
Peyton Osborn opened the game on the hill for Redfield, throwing six innings, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and two walks, striking out eight. Bennett Osborn tossed three scoreless innings to close it out, allowing four hits and two walks, striking out one.
Brent Osborn reached base four times with a pair of singles and two walks. He also stole a base. Cooper Hainy had three singles.
Bennett Osborn was the only other Redfield hitter to reach base twice, with a single and a walk.
The loss to Elk Point is the first loss for Redfield in the year, which finishes at 18-1.
