Mount Vernon/Plankinton 22, Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central 20
MOUNT VERNON In a matchup of two ranked teams in Class 11B, the fifth-ranked Mount Vernon/Plankinton Titans came away with a 22-20 narrow victory over the fourth-ranked Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Blackhawks Friday in Mount Vernon.

Both teams end the regular season with 6-2 records.

The Titans rolled up 226 yards rushing, led by 74 yards from Riley Mayer. Mayer also had a pair of catches for 52 yards and had five tackles on defense.

Kyle Sandland ran 10 times for 68 yards and a score for MVP and led the team with six tackles. Brady Fox had 59 yards rushing on 15 carries and scored two touchdowns.

Holden Havlik led the Blackhawk offense with 237 yards and a score on 14 of 26 passing. Ryder Michalek had eight catches for 100 yards while Colby Flowers caught two passes for 33 yards and one score.

Tyson Eddy carried the ball 10 times for 46 yards to lead the Blackhawk rushing attack. Flowers had nine tackles and an interception to pace the defense.

The Blackhawks will be the tenth seed in 11B to open the playoffs Thursday against seventh-seeded Aberdeen Roncalli.

Sully Buttes 60, Sunshine Bible Academy 6
MILLER The fourth-ranked Sully Buttes Chargers used a 38-point outburst in the first quarter to set the tone before a third-quarter scoring burst ended the game early with a 60-6 victory over the Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders Friday at Sunshine Bible.

The Chargers move to 7-1 behind 269 yards and four touchdowns on the ground from Kadyn Westergren. Wesley Wittler led Sully Buttes with 56 yards on 3 of 6 passing and two touchdowns.

Four receivers caught passes for the Chargers, with Gavin Colson and Trever Marshall hauling in touchdown scores.

The Crusaders (2-6) were held to 62 total yards on offense. Tarrence Mickelson ran seven times for 24 yards to lead the offense. Toby Mickelson was 2 of 12 passing and was intercepted four times. Toby led the team with seven tackles.

Both teams will open in the Class 9B playoffs on Thursday.

Colman-Egan 52, Iroquois/Lake Preston 0
LAKE PRESTON The Colman-Egan Hawks scored a big victory to close out the regular season Friday over the Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks by the score of 52-0 in Lake Preston.

The Hawks move to 4-4 behind Jase Mousel, who had 77 yards rushing and a touchdown to go with 107 yards receiving and two scores.

The Sharks finish the season at 1-7. Brycon Blue threw for 38 yards

De Smet 28, Estelline/Hendricks 14
ESTELLINE The De Smet Bulldogs closed out their regular season with a 28-14 victory of the Estelline/Hendricks Redhawks Friday in Estelline.

Both teams finish the season with 4-4 records.

The Bulldogs were led by Slayten Wilkinson who had 188 yards rushing and three scores along with seven tackles. Ganon Henrich ran for 114 yards and led the defense with 12 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Gannon Gilligan had 55 yards on the ground and a score along with 10 tackles for De Smet.

The Redhawks were led by quarterback Carson Reitz, who completed 16 of 29 passes for 158 yards and two scores. He also ran for 54 yards.

Regan Schwartz came down with three catches for 64 yards and both touchdowns for Estelline/Hendricks. Matthew McAninch led the defense with 13 tackles.

The Bulldogs will open the postseason Thursday as the 12th seed in Class 9AA, traveling to Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy.
