JVC tops Highmore-Harrold for 281 boys’ consolation title

The James Valley Christian Vikings had to survive a second-half flurry from the Highmore-Harrold Pirates, but in the end, the Vikings came away with a 56-51 victory in the fifth-place game at the 281 Conference boys tournament Thursday at Huron Arena.

JVC moves to 5-4 behind a huge game from Jerrad Wallman, as he dropped in 28 points. Jayven VanScharrel added 10 points.

The Pirates fall to 3-7 despite 20 points from Brooks McPeak. Jordan Erfman chipped in 12 points.

The two teams will square off again Tuesday at the JVC gym.

Seventh Place – Hitchcock-Tulare 69, Sunshine Bible Academy 50
Sophomore Patrick Maynard had a huge game, scoring 34 points, including eight three-point baskets, to lead the Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots to a 69-50 victory over the Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders to claim seventh place in the 281 Conference boys tournament Thursday morning at Huron Arena.

The Patriots move to 3-7 as Devin Enander added 12 points to Maynards total and Preston Wipf chipped in 10 points off the bench.

Maynard also led the Patriots with a game-high seven rebounds.

SBA (0-7) was led by Trey Thieman with 22 points. Tarrence Mickelson added nine points.

The Crusaders host Colome on Saturday while the Patriots travel to Redfield on Tuesday.
