HURON The Groton Area Tigers took a close game at halftime and blew it open in the third quarter en route to a 51-38 victory over the Winner Warriors Tuesday at Huron Arena.
The Tigers, the eighth seed, feel behind after one quarter, 9-6, but they outscored the Warriors to hold a 17-15 lead at half. Groton Area then outpaced Winner 16-8 to take a commanding lead and held that lead through a fairly even fourth quarter.
The Tigers move to 17-5 behind 15 points from Becker Bosma. Karson Zak added 13 points.
Gage Sippel hauled in a game-high nine rebounds.
Winner (16-6) was led by Carter Craven with 17 points and Shawn Hammerbeck added 13 points. Both Craven and Hammerbeck had seven rebounds to lead the Warriors.
