City approves three variance requests

HURON The Huron City Commission reviewed and approved three variances on Monday evening as the board of adjustment. The first was a detached garage to be built at 375 5th St. NE by Brandon Ransom. The variance concerned the garage being 29 tall, which is taller than the 25 in code for an accessory building. After review of current building on the property, the garage was approved.

The second variance request was to construct a detached garage at 1146 Kansas Ave. NE. Commissioners questioned access to the garage from the ally, but the home owner stated that vehicles will not be parked in front of the garage as the garage would be utilized to store antique cars.

Finally, the commission approved the division of lots at 864 Utah Ave. SE and 429 9th St. SE. The two properties were originally put together in a covenant. The two lots would be below minimum size, but are both independent lots in water and sewer currently. Once out of the board of adjustment, the commission approved the dissolution of the covenant that joined the properties.

Commissioners heard from a resident during public forum concerned about road conditions on Frontier Dr. These will be relayed to the street supervisor.
