Eighth graders sweep Yankton
YANKTON The Huron eighth-grade volleyball team swept Yankton on Thursday.
The Tigers won the A-match with scores of 25-18 and 25-15.
Grace Diede was perfect on 24 serves with 11 aces to lead Huron, while Natasha Vasquez-Morales was 5 of 6 serving with four aces. Quinn Pell was 6 of 7 serving with two aces and Bentlea Fenske had three aces on 8 of 8 serving.
Huron won the B match with scores of 23-25, 25-21 and 15-12.
Pell had five aces on 8 of 12 serves, while Hattie Ross was 15 of 15 with four aces and Moora Htoo was 11 of 13 with four aces. Sofia Hulst was 6 of 9 with two aces, while December Chase was 3 of 3 with a pair of aces and Lowanna Lo was 4 of 6.
Huron won the C-match with scores of 25-18 and 25-22.
Mckenzie Watson led the Tigers with three aces on 7 of 10 serving, while Kiera Hansen was 5 of 6 with an ace. Addisen Parker was 4 of 8 with an ace, while Ashtyn Pederson was 3 of 4 with an ace.
Huron will travel to face Mitchell on Thursday.
Seventh grade
Yankton emerged with a sweep against the Huron seventh graders on Thursday.
The Gazelles claimed the A-match with scores of 25-17, 24-26 and 15-12.
Yankton also needed three sets in the B-match to win. The scores were 25-14, 19-25 and 18-16.
The C-match ended with the Gazelles winning with scores of 25-8 and 25-5.
