HURON On senior night, the Huron Tigers gave its graduating players something to remember, securing a shutout 39-0 over the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles Friday at Tiger Stadium.
Huron could not have asked for things to go better to open the game, as Landon Hulst intercepted Aberdeen quarterback Brayden Bowmans first pass, giving the Tigers the ball in Golden Eagles territory. Unfortunately, the Tigers would not capitalize on the turnover, giving the ball back on downs.
Aberdeen then set about a long drive, highlighted by a 37-yard connection down the middle from Bowman to Paxton Ewing. However, after getting inside the red zone, Aberdeen turned the ball over on downs deep in Huron territory.
Starting on their own 12-yard line, the Tigers leaned on senior back Hulst, and he burst through the Aberdeen defense to get near midfield. Anderson Porisch then completed back-to-back passes to Mason Jurgens for 13 yards and another first down into Aberdeen territory.
Hulst gained 15 yards on two carries for another first down. Porisch found Blake Ellwein for Ellweins first catch of the year, and Oakley Anderson weaved through defenders for 14 yards for a first down at the Aberdeen 9. Hulst then ran it in from there. A Ty Kleinsasser point-after kick made it 7-0 with 3:23 left in the first quarter.
After Aberdeen was forced to punt, Huron got the ball back, and Hulst had two huge runs to quickly get the Tigers to the Aberdeen 35.
Hulst had a short gain, and then Porisch connected with Jurgens on a 32-yard touchdown pass. The kick failed, but Huron was up 13-0 with 10:58 left in the first half.
Aberdeen would go to the air for a pair of first downs in their next possession, but the Golden Eagles ended up turning the ball over on downs.
Huron got the ball on their own 39 and went to the air. Porisch hit Jurgens for seven yards, then a six-yard run by Hulst got the Tigers into Aberdeen territory.
Porisch hit brother Carter Porisch for 13 yards and a first down, then he connected with James Shoultz Jr. on a 34-yard touchdown on a middle screen pass. The two-point pass play failed, giving Huron a 19-0 lead with 4:47 left in the first half.
Aberdeen got a pair of first downs on the subsequent drive, but then Joey Dallmann fumbled the ball at the 45-yard line, and Huron recovered.
After an incomplete pass, Porisch took a quarterback run for a dozen yards and a first down. He then went deep to Ellwein and drew a pass interference, getting the ball to the Aberdeen 28 on the penalty.
Porisch connected with Jurgens and then with Carter Porisch to get down to the Golden Eagle 7. Hulst used two runs to punch the ball in from there. Kleinsasser hit the kick, and with 39 seconds left in the first half, Huron had a commanding 26-0 lead.
The Tigers opened the second half with a punt, but on the second Golden Eagle play of the second half, Kleinsasser made an interception, giving the Tigers the ball at the Aberdeen 20.
After an incomplete pass, Anderson Porisch ran twice through the Aberdeen defense, the second for 13 yards and a score. The kick missed, but with 8:13 left in the third quarter, Huron moved to a 32-0 lead.
Aberdeen would then put together their best drive of the game, working the mid-range passing game for three first downs to the Huron 35. The drive stalled, and on fourth down, Jurgens tipped the ball to Riley Winegar for an interception.
Huron then went about a time-eating drive, intentionally passing short. Porisch completed to Jurgens for 12 yards and a first down.
After a pair of short passes netted no gan, Porisch completed to Hulst, and the running back maneuvered in open space, gaining 50 yards on the play to the Aberdeen 15. Huron had a touchdown pass to Jurgens, but a holding call brought it back. The drive stalled at that point, and the Tigers turned the ball over on downs, with the game now moved into the fourth quarter.
The Golden Eagles punted, and the Tigers were able to get the ball in Golden Eagle territory. Porisch hit Jurgens to open the drive for a first down to the Aberdeen 35.
On third down, Porisch found Carter Porisch for 31 yards to the four-yard line. After a one-yard loss, Porisch ran up the middle for a five-yard touchdown. The extra point kick made it 39-0 Huron with 6:24 left in the game.
The backups played out the running clock from that point.
The Tigers move to 6-1 behind a balanced offensive attack. Porisch was 15 of 24 passing for 231 yards and two scores while also running eight times for 51 yards and two more touchdowns.
Hulst ran 17 times for 108 yards and two scores, his sixth 100-yard game of the season. He also caught two balls for 50 yards.
Jurgens led the receivers with seven catches for 74 yards and a touchdown. Carter Porisch finished with four grabs for 65 yards.
The Golden Eagles fall to 2-5. Bowman threw for 121 yards, but he also threw three interceptions on the game.
The Tigers are on the road to finish the season, beginning at Mitchell next Friday.
