Culver tosses no-hitter in second game

HURON –– The Huron Tigers’ junior varsity squad found a way to score plenty of runs on a cold and dreary day Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader from Sioux Falls Lincoln JV Red by the scores of 17-6 and 5-0.

The Tiger bats lept out early in the opener, scoring 16 runs in the first two innings on the way to a 17-6 final.

Parker Bischoff got the start on the mound, going four innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits and three walks.
He struck out eight. Sean Janes finished the game on the mound, allowing three runs over one inning of relief.

The Huron bats were patient and made use of nine Lincoln fielding errors.

Jimmie Martin reached base three times for the Tigers, with a single and two walks. He also stole two bases.

Janes had a double and a walk, leading the team with three runs driven in. Tyce Huber had a single and a walk, and Colt Culver drew two walks. Culver stole a base as well.

Cooper Bischoff and Gavin Waldner each stole a pair of bases. Chase Schuchhardt, Jackson Ford, and Zach Sheer each stole a base.

The Tigers scored early and made it stand up in the nightcap, winning 5-0.

Culver got the shutout on the mound with five no-hit innings, walking two and striking out seven.

The Huron offense did not have a batter reach base outside of an error more than once. Schuchhardt laced a triple, and Martin picked up a double on offense.

Waldner swiped a pair of bases, while Culver and Parker Bischoff each stole a base.

The JV Tigers (2-2) traveled to Pierre on Tuesday and host Washington on Saturday.
