PIERRE — With the top three golfers in the field, Aberdeen Central finished at 301 to win the title at the Pierre Invitational on Tuesday at Hillsview Golf Club.
Mitchell was 30 strokes back in the runner-up spot, while Watertown was third at 347. Rounding out the top five were Rapid City Stevens at 366 and Pierre at 371. Huron was eighth at 426. Olivia Braun of Aberdeen Central claimed the medalist honors at the meet with a 1-under-par 70. She was the lone golfer to finish under par. Aberdeen Central teammates Emma Dohrer and Kylie Wirebaugh were second and third, respectively, with scores of 73 and 75. Gabi Olson of Watertown was fourth with a 78, while Maddie Childs of Mitchell also carded a 78 to finish fifth.
Huron’s top golfer was Taylor Sorben with a 91 to finish in spot No. 22. Olivia Purintun was 29th for the Tigers at 102.
Rounding out the lineup for Huron were Kolby Glanzer at 113 and Elle Waldoch at 120. Next up for the Tigers is the Hub City Golf Invitational on Thursday at Moccasin Creek Country Club in Aberdeen.
Huron MS golfers sixth in Mitchell
MITCHELL — Huron finished sixth in the Mitchell Middle School Invite on Tuesday at Lakeview Golf Course. Yankton needed a scorecard playoff to claim the title with a 212, while Brookings was second at 212.
Rounding out the top five were Mitchell at 216, Watertown at 230 and Tea Area at 232.
Huron claimed the sixth spot with a 255, while Aberdeen Central rounded out the field at 264. Kate Schutz of Mitchell and Liv Thunker of Yankton were first and second, respectively, with scores of 48. Rylynn Crandell led Huron with a 58, which put her 17th in the final standings. Elizabeth Sorben was 26th at 62, while Caroline Wheeler was 29th at 65. Rounding out the lineup for the Tigers were Ashtyn Peersen at 70 and Avery Mulder at 75.
