The Iroquois FCCLA chapter recently showcased its leadership, creativity, and dedication at the South Dakota FCCLA State Leadership Conference, held April 26–28, in Sioux Falls.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a national student organization that helps young people develop leadership skills while focusing on careers in Family and Consumer Sciences. Through projects and competitive events, students address real-life issues such as community service, career exploration, nutrition, and education.
Members of the Iroquois chapter competed in a variety of STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events, demonstrating months of hard work and preparation. Their efforts resulted in an impressive list of accomplishments.
Madi earned a gold medal for her Chapter Community Service Project Display supporting the Ronald McDonald House. Emma also received gold for her Repurpose and Redesign project, “Denim to Designer.” Addison earned gold and placed in the top five for her Career Investigation project focused on becoming a teacher.
Kolee and Brianna received gold and placed in the top five for their Focus on Children project, where they taught preschoolers how to play Crazy 8’s and created handmade card holders to support fine motor skills. Their project qualified for national competition, marking a historic achievement as the first national qualifiers for the Iroquois FCCLA chapter.
Connor and Anthony earned silver for their Food Innovations project featuring their jerky product. Thomas and Trae also received silver for their National Programs in Action project, which highlighted a Career Connections 5th Grade Business Fair. Jolene earned silver for her Professional Presentation on rodeo education, and Taylor received a bronze medal for her Book Tasting project designed to encourage reading among students.
In addition to individual successes, the Iroquois FCCLA chapter was recognized with a Superior Gold rating for their participation in Current Trends and Outreach projects, highlighting their commitment to making a positive impact both in their school and community.
FCCLA adviser Mrs. Dant expressed her pride in the group’s accomplishments.
“I am so proud of each and every one of these students,” she said. “They have grown so much this year, not only in their projects but as leaders. Watching their hard work pay off at the state level has been incredibly rewarding.”
The Iroquois FCCLA chapter continues to build momentum, with plans to expand opportunities and participation in the coming year.
