Letter – Jones 5-13-26

To the editor:

To celebrate National Music Week, sponsored by National Federated Music Clubs, which was May 3-10, I will tell you how music has influenced my life.

I started singing at a young age in front of a large group of people, and I have never stopped. Singing in All-State Choruses, taking voice lessons from my music teacher in high school, just encouraged me to do more. Although I don’t have a degree in music, it has made me who I am today.

Moving around during my marriage, I was fortunate enough to find a community chorus to sing in, and I always told my husband, “I just have to sing.” From Huron to Reno, Nev., to Bismarck, N.D., back to Huron and then to Loveland, Colo., and back to Huron, music has been an important part of my life.

I was fortunate to sing with the greats, Barb Valer, and Ben’s grandma, Shirley Chase, as well as community theatre musicals, so yes, music has made me who I am and shaped me in a way I could never have imagined when I started at that young age many years ago. I am now considerably older, but music is my constant companion and “I just have to sing.”
