Huron Post 7 splits high-scoring doubleheader against Smittys

HURON –– Huron Post 7 Legion hosted Aberdeen Smittys Legion Wednesday for a doubleheader that featured 65 runs scored by the two teams as the teams split action at Klock Field.

Smittys finished with a flourish in the opener, scoring 16 runs in the final three innings to win 21-11.

Nolan Stahly started the game for Post 7, throwing 4 2/3 innings, allowing 10 runs on 11 hits and a walk. He struck out three. Tyce Huber pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, allowing 11 runs on nine hits, four walks, striking out one.

Trace Wenz had a big game from the leadoff spot, hitting a double, home run, and a single. He also had a stolen base.

Korbin Brock and Jeremy Hofer each had a pair of singles and a walk.

Cooper Bischoff and Parker Bischoff each had a single and a walk. Chase Schuchhardt had a single and was hit by pitch.

Zach Scheer had a double.

A six-run bottom of the sixth clinched an 18-15 win in the nightcap for Post 7.

Tommie Martin got the start, allowing ten runs on ten hits and six walks over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out one. Schuchhardt struggled with command without recording an out, walking three, hitting two batters and uncorking a wild pitch while allowing two runs. Brock finished the game, allowing three unearned runs on four walks and a strikeout over 2 1/3 innings.

Schuchhardt’s bat led the way, as he smashed a pair of doubles, two singles and also drew a walk. Parker Bischoff had three singles.

Wenz had a double, a single, and two walks. CJ Siedschlag had two singles and a walk.

Brock had two singles and was hit by a pitch. Stahly had a pair of singles. Cooper Bischoff had a single, a walk and stole a base.

Hofer had a walk and was hit by pitch.

Huron takes a 2-11 record to Harrisburg on Tuesday.

Post 7 picks up first win in Veteran’s Classic

RAPID CITY –– Huron Post 7 earned its first win of the year at the Veteran’s Classic in Rapid City, held June 4-7.

The Tigers defeated USA Prime Mountain West in a tight game, 6-5 to open Friday’s play. Huron scored first in the bottom of the first, but quickly saw Prime Mountain score five unanswered runs. Huron would chip away and a run in the bottom of the sixth would prove the difference.

Stahly went the distance, throwing seven innings, allowing five runs on 10 hits and a walk, striking out one.

Wenz, Schuchhardt and Cooper Bischoff each had a pair of singles. Bischoff had a steal.

Hofer had a single, a walk and a stolen base. Oakley Anderson had a triple and two walks.

Huron was overwhelmed by a powerful offense in the second game on Friday, falling 25-3 to Post 320 Stars.

Scheer opened the game on the mound, allowing nine runs over 1 2/3 innings on four hits and eight walks. Huber threw 1/3 inning, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk. Wenz pitched an inning, allowing eight runs on eight hits and two walks, striking out two. Cooper Bischoff finished out the game, going one inning, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks, striking out one.

No Huron batter reached base twice in the game. Tommie Martin had a double.

On Saturday, Huron fell 15-7 to Sheridan.

Martin climbed the hill first for Huron, pitching four innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and three walks. Hurber then relieved him, allowing 10 runs on 1 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and six walks, striking out one.

Hofer had a pair of doubles and a walk. Schuchhardt had a double and a single.

Cooper Bischoff and Parker Bischoff each had a single and a walk. Scheer smacked a double.

The Tigers finished the Classic on the short end of a high-scoring game with Laramie, falling 16-12.

Anderson started the game, but he was pulled after two outs, allowing four runs on two hits and three walks. Siedschlag allowed 11 runs over 5 2/3 innings on 14 hits and two walks, striking out two. Schuchhardt finished the game, allowing a run on a hit and a walk before getting the final two outs.

Schuchhardt had a double and two singles. Parker Bischoff had three singles and stole a base.

Siedschlag had two singles and a walk. Brock had a single, two walks and stole two bases.

Stahly had a triple and a single. Martin had a single and a walk.

Scheer and Hofer each had a triple. Huber and Wenz each stole a base.

Huron drops two to Renner

HURON –– Post 7 dropped a pair of games on Tuesday to Renner at Klock Field.

The opener was not completed in regulation, with the clubs knotted 1-1. Renner put up two runs in the top of the ninth, and Huron pushed one run across, but stranded the game-tying run at third base, as Renner won 6-5.

Scheer pitched a gem, going 6 1/3 innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits and four walks, striking out four. Wenz finished the game with 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing two runs on a hit and three walks, striking out one.

Cooper Bischoff had three singles, a walk and stole three bases. Hofer had a double, single and a walk. Scheer had a pair of singles and a stolen base.

Parker Bischoff had a single and a walk. Wenz had a double.

Renner jumped out early and held Huron at bay to claim a 13-2 win in the nightcap.

Parker Bischoff threw 5 1/3 innings, allowing 12 runs on 10 hits and seven walks, striking out two. Huber got the final two outs, allowing one run on one hit and a walk.

Hofer had a double and walked twice. Martin had a double and a walk. Schuchhardt slapped a pair of singles.
