ABERDEEN –– The Huron Tigers Post 7 Junior Legion club swept a pair of high-scoring games from Smittys 16U on Monday in Aberdeen.
In the first game, Huron broke up a tied game entering the sixth inning with a seven-run burst to claim a 14-7 win.
Sean Janes opened the game on the mound, pitching six innings, allowing six runs on six hits and four walks, striking out four. Jimmie Martin closed out the game, allowing one unearned run on one walk.
Colt Culver paced the Tiger offense from the leadoff spot, with two doubles, two singles and a stolen base. Quincy Rashaad on the bottom of the lineup helped Culver by collecting a double and two singles.
Zaidyn Wood and Janes each had a pair of hits and were hit by pitch. Wood had a double and a steal in his day.
Jackson Ford walked twice and Ryker Shelton walked three times for Huron.
Huron was able to hold off a last-chance rally by the Smittys to come away with a 16-15 win.
Culver opened the game on the mound for Huron, tossing five innings, allowing nine runs on six hits and seven walks. He struck out three. Noah Koops got two outs, allowing six runs, one earned, on one hit and five walks. Ford got the final out.
Ford had three singles and a walk to lead the Huron offense. Culver had two singles and two walks.
Wood had a double and was hit by pitch twice. Koops and Rashaad each had a single and a walk.
Janes and Martin each stole a base.
The Junior Legion, now 3-3 is part of the Dakota Classic in Sioux Falls this weekend.
