May is Get Caught Reading Month
May is National Get Caught Reading Month, a public service campaign launched by the Association of American Publishers to remind people of all ages how much fun and rewarding reading can be. While May officially kicks off the celebration, the fun continues year-round!

At the Huron Public Library, were joining the celebration by encouraging readers of all ages to Get Caught Reading! Stop by the library, get spotted reading a book, and receive a treat!

Kids Korner (Birth Grade 3):
The Librarys Kids Korner is wrapping up the school year and gearing up for an exciting summer! Heres whats happening this May:

After the Bell Final Session: Tuesday, May 7 (Early Release). Join us for one last fun-filled afternoon as we wrap up our After the Bell afterschool program! Well celebrate the end of the school year with games, activities, and smiles. Dont miss itregister today!

Bubbles and Books Storytime: Every Tuesday at 10:30 AM. Designed for ages 09 (and their grown-ups), this lively Storytime brings books to life with engaging stories, rhymes, and, of course, bubbles! Join us each Tuesday morning for a little magic and a lot of fun.

Special Orchestra Storytime: Vivaldis Four Seasons: Saturday, May 10 at 1:30 PM. Dont miss this enchanting musical Storytime! The Huron High School Chamber Orchestra will perform Vivaldis Four Seasons live, while our own Ms. Danyelle narrates the story. Its a unique blend of music and storytelling that the whole family will lovecome early to grab your seat!

Summer Reading Program: Registration Opens May 27. Level up your summer with the Kids Korner Summer Reading Program! Packed with awesome activities, cool prizes, and endless reading adventures, its the highlight of the season. Mark your calendarsregistration starts May 27!
Tweens and Teens (Grades 4 12):

Movin On Up Party: Friday, May 23 | 4:306:00 PM. Hey 3rd gradersits your time to shine! As you move up into the Tween/Teen section of the library, were celebrating with a welcome party just for you. Join Mary for an afternoon of fun, games, and pizza as you explore everything our space has to offer.

Indie Lens Pop-Up: Free for All: The Public Library: Monday, May 13 at 6:00 PM Presented by ITVS, INDEPENDENT LENS, SDPB, and the Huron Public Library. Join us for a special event featuring a shortened preview of Free for All: The Public Library, followed by a Q&A about the rich history of the Huron Public Library. This documentary tells the story of the quiet revolutionaries who built a civic institution where everything is free and the doors are open to all. Patrons are encouraged to share memories and stories about how the library has touched their lives. Free to attend. RSVP requested.

Coffee Chat Series
Tuesday, May 6 at 6:30 PM Kim Reiger: Connecting Cultures
Connecting Cultures is an area ministry support group which includes members from several churches in Huron and the surrounding area, was formed in 2016 with a purpose of reaching out to those in need and learning about different cultures in our region. The main goal is to connect with people in our region to bring all the amazing cultures together as one by an exchange of ideas, stories and life.

Ryan Maxted discussing fraud and scamming. Ryan has been employed at BMO Bank for 10 years and currently serves as Branch Manager. He enjoys serving customers to help them receive the best services for their banking needs. Ryan is married with one son. In his spare time, he is an avid rider of his Harley Davidson!

Community Conversations: Library Accessibility: Tuesday, May 13 at 12:00 PM & 3:00 PM. Do you struggle to reach books on high shelves? Is the computer screen too bright? Join our Community Conversations to help us make the library more accessible for everyone. Share your ideas and experienceswe want to hear from you! Snacks will be provided!

Heirlooms: Wisdom Writing Workshop: Wednesday, June 4 at 9:30 AM
Discover the wisdom youve gained through life and how to express it through writing. This 2.5-hour workshop explores age-related attitudes, personal growth, and the theory of gerotranscendence (wisdom of aging). Co-taught by Leacey Brown (SDSU Extension Gerontology Field Specialist) and Molly Barari (South Dakota Humanities Scholar), the session offers an engaging, reflective experience with writing as a tool for resilience. Registration opens May 5! This program is sponsored by the South Dakota Humanities Council.
