Albert Schmidt, 81, of Woonsocket

   WOONSOCKET — Albert P. Schmidt, 81, of Woonsocket, passed away Tuesday January 22, 2019, at the Huron Regional Hospital.  
Funeral mass service will be 2 p.m., Saturday January 26, at St. Wilfrid’s Catholic Church in Woonsocket. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a scripture service at 6:30 p.m.  
Albert was born February 18, 1937, at Woonsocket to Adolph and Zita (McCall) Schmidt. He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School and farmed his whole life. He retired from the South Dakota National Guard after 40 years of service, served nine years on the Plankinton School Board, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He married Muriel (Mike) Meyer in Woonsocket November 28, 1959, and they raised six children. Albert loved farming, westerns, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and always loved to spread his humor and jokes to all of those around him. He was a proud family man who loved his children and grandchildren.
Albert is survived by his wife, Mike; children, Jim Schmidt, Allen (Anita) Schmidt both of Plankinton, LaDeen (Kyle) Krueger of Hoven, and Steve (Amber) Schmidt of Madison; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Zita; sisters, Katie Robbins, and Marion Goergen; brother, Wilfrid; and sons, Gregory and Douglas Schmidt.
