Area basketball - five games

James Valley Christian 46, Iroquois 17
HURON — Two players scored double figures for the James Valley Christian Lady Vikings en route to a 46-17 win over the Iroquois Chiefs in Class “B” girls’ basketball action, Thursday night.
JVC smashed Iroquois early in the game, finishing the first quarter with a 23-1 lead, and continued to keep ahead the remainder of the game.
Rebekah Williams led the Lady Vikings with 21 points, followed by 13 points from Karilyn Weiting, including one three-point shot.
Elizabeth Mendel led with five rebounds, while Brenna Held took four.
Katie Dubro led the Chiefs with eight points and one three-pointer, Taylin IronHawk added four more, while Sierra Kogel and Kaitlyn Maas both led the rebounds with four each for the team.
JVC improved their season record to 4-11 with the win, while Iroquois dropped to 0-16 on the season.
The Lady Vikings will be back in action on Saturday when they host the De Smet Lady Bulldogs, while Iroquois is set to travel to Woonsocket on Tuesday to take on the Blackhawks.

HURON — The James Valley Christian Vikings had three players land in double figures to assist in their 67-51 victory over the Iroquois Chiefs, in Class “B” boys’ basketball, Thursday night.
Josh Weiting led the Vikings with 20 points, Michael Waldner followed with 15, while Ryan Wager added 14 more. James Valley improved their season record to 6-10 with the win.
Iroquois, now dropped to 3-11 on the season, was led by Jacob Bich with 16 points, 15 points were added from Keistan Dubro and Adam Keating finished with nine points for the team.
James Valley is set to host the De Smet Bulldogs on Saturday, while Iroquois will travel to Woonsocket to take on the Blackhawks this Thursday.

Miller 81, Ipswich 69
MILLER — The top seeded Miller Rustlers swept the Ipswich Tigers 81-69 in boys’ basketball action, Thursday.  
The Rustlers improved their season record to 11-3 with the win and were led by Steven Fernholz with 24 points. Karst Hunter followed with 21 points and led with 10 rebounds, while Devin Letsche added 11 more points.
Dylan Northrop led Ipswich with a game high of 38 points, Josh Burgod followed with 12, while Will Kadlee had nine points. Ipswich dropped it’s season record to 8-7 with the loss.
Miller is set to host the Platte-Geddes Black Panthers on Saturday.
In Junior Varsity boys’ basketball, Miller took a 47-36 win over the Ipswich Tigers.
Spencer Fernholz led the Rustlers with 18 points and nine rebounds, Tyler Shumaker followed with 13 points.

Clark-Willow Lake 64, Sisseton 53
CLARK — The top ranked Class “B” boys basketball team, the Clark-Willow Lake Cyclones, took a 64-53 win over the Sisseton Redmen Tuesday night at Clark High School.
Three members of the Cyclones team landed double figures, with Jacob Poulty in the lead at 27 points, Bradyn Rusher followed with 13, while Micah Burke added 12 more. Ntai Stevens led the Cyclones with 10 rebounds.
CWL netted 21-of-31 free throws to pave the way to the win, while the Redmen only had three free throws in the game.
The Redmen were led by Dion Iyarpeya’s 22 points, got 14 points from Benji Thompson and another 12 points and nine boards from Spencer Weatherstone.

Wessington Springs 60, Iroquois 54, OT
WESSINGTON SPRINGS — The Wessington Springs Spartans overcame a third-quarter deficit to force overtime. The outscored the Iroquois Chiefs 11-5 to secure the 60-54 281 Conference boys’ basketball win Tuesday night.
Gunnar Brandenburg scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds, John Witte had 16 and five and also handed out three assists as the Spartans move to 4-9 on the season. Noah Hainy also had three assists.
Adam Keating scored 12 points, had seven rebounds and four assists for the Chiefs, who fall to 3-10 with the loss. Keistan Dubro also had 12 points and Jacob Bich chipped in 11.
Wessington Springs will play in the Highmore Action Club Classic on Saturday, while Iroquois is back in action on Tuesday at Sanborn Central-Woonsocket.
