James Valley Christian 51, Aberdeen Christian 34
HURON — The James Valley Christian Lady Vikings broke open a tight game with a third-quarter spurt and downed the Aberdeen Christian Knights 51-34 in non-conference girls’ basketball action Saturday night at the JVC Gym.
Rebekah Williams had 17 points and hauled down seven rebounds to pace the Lady Vikings, who open the season 1-0 with the win. Avery Shumaker added 15 points for JVC.
Aimee Vilhauer had 10 points and nine boards for the Knights, now 0-1, and Hailey Moeller chipped in 10 points as well on the night.

Sanborn Central-Woonsocket 67, Sunshine Bible Academy 51
MILLER — The Sanborn Central-Woonsocket Blackhawks took a 67-51 victory away from the Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders in Class “B” girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The first quarter ended at 15-9 in favor of the Crusaders but the Blackhawks went into halftime at a 33-27 advantage and continued to ascend into the big win.
Abby Doering and Tesa Jensen led the Blackhawks with 16 points each, while Tristan Ziebart added 13. Sanborn Central-Woonsocket will take on the Mt. Vernon-Plankinton Titans in Forestburg on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
The Crusaders were led by Susan Wilken with 19 points, and Lindsey Wilken added 17 points for Sunshine Bible Academy, who will travel to Faulkton on Tuesday to tangle with the Trojans.

MITCHELL — Mitchell Christian opened with a 27-3 lead in the first qaurter en route to a 61-18 victory against Iroquois on Friday.
Hannah Cooper and Staci Wolbrink led the Golden Eagles to the win with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Charlotte Haag also reached double figures with 10 points, while Erica Thompson added eight points.
Haag had a team-high six rebounds for Mitchell Christian, while Wolbrink had four assists. Cooper and Wolbrink each recorded four steals.

WEBSTER — The Webster Area Bearcats clawed their way back from a 15-point halftime deficit to post a 53-48 win over the Redfield-Doland Pheasants in non-conference girls’ basketball Friday night.
The Pheasants held a 35-20 advantage at the half, but were outscored 18-5 in the third quarter as Webster Area rolled to the win.
Olivia Breske scored 26 points to lead the Bearcats, while Cara Shoemaker added 15.
Redfield-Doland got 22 points from Addison Rozell. The Pheasants are back in action on Monday, when they travel to Faulkton Area to take on the Trojans.

Sanborn Central-Woonsocket 78, Sunshine Bible Academy 39
MILLER — The Sanborn Central-Woonsocket Blackhawks took a dominating 78-39 win over the Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders in a “Class B” boys’ basketball match on Saturday.
The Blackhawks ended each quarter with a decisive lead and went into half time at 47-21, with more than double the points the Crusaders had collected so far. They continued to fight hard to come out on top.
Trey Weber and Trent Kingsbury each scored 16 points leading the Blackhawks, while 15 points were added by Jared Goldhammer. The Blackhawks will host the Tripp-Delmont/Armour Nighthawks, Thursday evening.
Jade Burma led the Crusaders with 18 points, while Ross Engle added 11 points. The Crusaders will travel to Faulkton, Tuesday to take on the Trojans.

DE SMET — The De Smet Bullodgs opned the 2017-2018 season with a 65-41 victory against Lake Preston on Friday.
The Bulldgos led 30-23 at the half after outscoring Lake Preston 22-12 in the second quarter. They then limited the Divers to just nine points in each of the final two quarters to pull away for the win.
Gage Gruenhagen finished with a game-high 33 points for the Bulldogs. Ethan McCune also reached double figures with nine 19 points.
Zach Wolkow and Gruenhagen each had nine rebounds for De Smet.
Jack Hasche led lake Preston with 22 points, while Jasper Dennison added 10 points.
Hasche and Paydon Casper shared the rebounding honors for the Divers with eight boards each.

MITCHELL — Mitchell Christian outscored Iroquois 20-7 in the second quarter en route to a 69-34 victory in the season opener for both teams on Friday.
After leading 34-19 at the half, Mitchell Christian stretched its advantage to 51-34 in the fhird quarter, before holding the Chiefs scoreless in the final quarter.
Alec Nelson had 25 points, including a 12-of-12 effort from the free-throw line, to lead three players in double figures for the Golden Eagles. Ty Vander Pol  had 12 points, while Colton Wolbrink added 10 points.
Keistan Dubro came off the bench to lead Iroquois with nine points. Caleb Waldner had seven points, while Zach Dutcher had five points.
