HURON — Betty Holforty, 92, of Huron, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell.
A private memorial service will take place.
Betty Jane Phinney was born May 14, 1925, in Alpena to Wyman and Donna (Lybarger) Phinney. Betty grew up in Alpena and attended Alpena schools.
Betty married Clarence Holforty on November 22, 1941, in Nebraska. To this union, three children were born. Betty worked as a cook and baker for many years for the Huron School District. Betty and Clarence farmed near Huron. Betty enjoyed reading and listening to music as well as enjoying the beautiful Montana mountains near Missoula.
She is survived by sons, Gary Holforty of Mitchell, and Dan (Deb Kludt) Holforty of Huron. Grandchildren, Traci (Paul) Sorben, Jason (Heidi) Holforty all of Huron, Ashley (Mike) Oyen of Rapid City, Lucas Holforty of Mitchell, Josh (Nicole) Sammons of Windom, Minn., Molly (Jason) Goldammer of Huron, Annie (Austin) McKinney of Huron, and Matt Marvel of Bozeman, Mont. Great-grandchildren, Stephanie (Matt), Alex (Jenny), Jamie, Jake, Cashton, Ellee, Eastyn, and Jaxsyn all of Huron, Lydia and Reed of Rapid City; Kade, Kendyl, Hadley, Haidyn of Windom, Minn. Great-great-grandchildren, Kayla, Hannah, Olivia, Taylor and Elizabeth of Huron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Keith Phinney, Lyle Phinney, Darlene Wenz, and Charlotte Van Laecken; husband, Clarence; her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Doug Marvel; and her granddaughter, Lori Holforty.
