Betty M. Bergstrom, 92, of Huron

HURON — Betty May Bergstrom, 92, of Huron, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Saturday, July 1, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial in the St. Martin’s Cemetery. Memorial visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday followed by a scripture prayer service and rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home or memorial visitation one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church on Saturday.
Betty was born on January 29, 1925 in Cavour to Eli and Regina (Marsh) Martin. She attended school in Cavour, graduated from Cavour High School and then attended Notre Dame Jr. College in Mitchell. She was united in marriage to Nels Bergstrom July 30, 1946, in Huron; Nels passed away May 5, 1997. 
After college, Betty worked in a government office and then worked for the Huron Credit Bureau and Public Records Office for 40 years. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, watching baseball and basketball, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She volunteered at the St. Francis Shop, enjoyed hosting a Tuesday night get-together for residents at the nursing home and was a longtime member of the VFW Auxiliary. Betty was very devout in her Catholic faith at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish where she was active in Catholic Daughters, daily prayer, transporting parishioners to church, and active in several other areas of the parish.
Grateful to have shared in her life include her two daughters, Sandra (James) Jungemann of Huron, and Peggy (Glenn) Martinson of Huron; two sons, Mike (Karen) Bergstrom of Sioux Falls, and Tony (Bonnie) Bergstrom of Aberdeen; eight grandchildren, Rob (Becky) Schmidt, Kerri (Lyle) Christensen, Kelli (Randy) Peterson, Corey Zieske, Erin (Justin) Stofferahn, and Tony Bergstrom; nine great-grandchildren, Andrew Christensen, Ashley Christensen, Jordan Christensen, Cole Peterson, Spencer Peterson, Haylie Zieske, David Zieske, Alyxandra Stofferahn, and Duke Stofferahn; also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
After a week long struggle in the hospital, Betty’s eyes opened on Sunday morning and she was alert to give her family a true gift of time, memories, and laughter.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nels; five brothers, Leon (Esther) Martin, Clair (Mary Alice) Martin, Eugene Martin, Frank Martin, and Edmund (Jean) Martin; seven sisters, Margaret (Martin) Rooney, Elaine (Boyd) Wiedenman, Sr. Moira Martin, Sr. Myron Martin, Regina Martin, Josephine Martin, and JoAnn Martin; two grandsons, Jeff Jungemann and Nick Zieske.
