DE SMET — Bret V. Hof, 58, of De Smet, passed away June 20, 2019, at De Smet Avera Memorial Hospital from natural causes.
There will be a visitation with family present from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 25, at Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet. A private committal of his ashes will be at a later date.
Bret was born June 14, 1961, at De Smet to Doctor Clinton and Janet Hof. He grew up and attended school in De Smet, graduating with the class of 1979. He then attended the University of South Dakota and the University of Minnesota, graduating from the University of South Dakota in 1983. He taught school in New Mexico for a few years before returning to De Smet, helping his father with Veterinary work for 25 years.
He enjoyed skiing, sculpting, and painting in his early years.
He is survived by his mother, Jan Hof, of De Smet; brothers, Jon (Carol) Hof of Minneapolis, Minn.; Jem (Christine) Hof of Yankton; one neice, and one nephew.
He is preceded in death by his father, Dr. Clinton Hof.
