FAULKTON — George William “Bill” Schilder, 92, of Faulkton, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the Faulkton Senior Living.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 24, at the United Church of Faulkton. Burial will follow in the Faulkton Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Friday at Luce Funeral Home in Faulkton.
Bill Schilder was born on June 21, 1925, near Burkmere to George and Bernice (Myers) Schilder. He was a farmer and rancher at heart, with a love of the land and all things connected to it. He was united in marriage to Joyce Kern on Valentine’s Day in 1948. He was involved with many habitat and wildlife organizations, receiving the S.D. Izaac Walton League Award and Citizen of the Year by the S.D. Wildlife Society for his work with restoration of Giant Canadian geese.
He is survived by his children, William, Jr. (Barb), Julie (Mike) Serlet, Bruce (Ginger), Joline (Mark) Dunbar, and Brent (Carol); 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; siblings, Donna, Dorothy, and Robert; half siblings, Pete, Jim, Irene, and Harry.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Faulkton Area Medical Center Foundation, PO Box 458, Faulkton, SD 57438, and Faulkton Senior Living, 1401 Pearl St., Faulkton, SD 57438.
