Huron boys’ defeat Brookings to stay unbeaten

HURON — The Huron boys’ soccer team remained undefeated with a 2-1 victory against Brookings on Tuesday at Tiger Stadium.

“I was a good game by our boys tonight, especially in the hot weather,” Huron coach Leah Branaugh said. “We played with intensity right from the start.”

The Tigers weren’t able to get their first goal until late in the opening half to take a 1-0 lead into the break.

Eduardo Trujillo found the net for Huron on a pass from Kler Hae during the 30th minute to open the scoring.

“Brookings really worked a great offsides trap which prevented us from scoring more goals,” Branaugh said. “We did a good job of not forcing shots, passes and to try maintaining possession of the ball.”

Brookings evened the score with the first goal of the second half, but the Tigers regained the advantage with an unassisted goal by Sha Sher during the 67th minute.

Alex Bautista earned the win in the net for Huron, which is now 3-0, with three saves.

Huron also won the junior varsity boys’ with a 4-2 decision.

Biat Say and Lay Mwe Thaw each had two goals for the Tigers, while Kuh Ner Moo had an assist.

Nick Weir recorded five saves as the goalkeeper for the Huron JV.

In their previous outing, the Tigers defeated James Valley Christian 10-0 in a varsity game on Aug. 20 at Tiger Stadium.

She Sher (two goals) and Thai Say (three goals) provided all the offense in the first half for the

Tigers as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead at the half.

Sher added his third goal in the 55th minute, and the Tigers continued to find the back of the net, with Eduardo Trujillo scoring two goals and assisting on two others. Ronaldo Pineda contributed a goal and an assist, and Aung Min put in the final goal of the game.

Alex Bautista made three saves to earn the victory for the Tigers, who moved to 2-0 on the season.

Huron pitched a shutout in the junior varsity game as well, defeating James Valley Christian 6-0.

Ta Ha Saw had a pair of goals in the game. Kuhler New Moo had a goal and an assist while Lay Thaw and Biat Say each added a goal. Nick Weir earned the win in goal for the Huron JV, even scoring a goal in the game as well.

Brookings defeated the Huron girls 3-0 on Tuesday.
