The Huron Post 7 Legion played a pair of doubleheaders on the road Tuesday and Wednesday, sweeping one and dropping both games in the other.

Tuesday, Post 7 traveled to Sioux Falls to take on Post 15 and came away with a pair of victories, 10-3 and 17-8.

In the first game, the Tigers struck first, with six runs in the first inning, and the home team could never close the gap.

Mason Davis earned the victory on the mound, going five innings, allowing three runs and striking out four. Peyton Bischoff tossed two perfect innings of relief, striking out one.

The Huron offense tallied 16 baserunners and seven stolen bases in the game.

Trace Wenz led the attack with three hits. Tyson Lien had a triple, a single, and a stolen base. Johnny Hernandez had a double, a single, and a stolen base.

Peyton Grace and Max Kranzler each stole two bases while Dawsyn Rogers added a steal.

In the second game, the Tigers built up a 7-1 lead before a huge 10-run inning that gave Huron the cushion to survive a 7-run outburst in the bottom of the sixth and hold on for a 17-8 victory.

Jack Pedersen opened the game on the mound, going 1 1/3 innings, allowing one run. He was relieved by Hernandez, who went 2 2/3 scoreless innings.

Peyton Grace led the Huron offensive attack with three hits, including a pair of doubles, and a stolen base. Tyson Lien was on base four times with two doubles and hit by pitch twice.

Max Kranzler powered out a triple, a single, and stole a base. Bubba Peterson and Rogers each added stolen bases in the game.

Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Brookings Bandits at Bob Sheldon Field in Brookings got off to a promising start, but ended with a pair of losses for Post 7.

In the first game, Huron jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the second inning and held that lead until Brookings scored in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-1.

Another Bandits run in the sixth would make the score 4-2 heading into the final inning of play. Huron added an insurance run, making the score 5-2 heading into the home half of the inning.

That’s when the wheels came off for the Tigers. After a strikeout to the first batter, the next two hitters walked, and a triple brought them in to make the score 5-4. An infield single left runners on first and third with one out.

Then Brookings got a double to tie the score at five with runners at second and third. The Tigers were able to get a strikeout, and it looked like Huron might force extras when the next hitter slapped a ground ball to shortstop Max Kranzler, but he had difficulty coming up with the play clean, the runner was safe at first, and Brookings scored the winning run to walk off with a 6-5 win.

Hernandez tossed a gem on the mound through 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs and striking out six.

Kranzler relieved him on the mound, going a scoreless 2/3 of an inning. Dawsyn Rogers allowed two runs over 1/3 inning and Layne Wenzel allowed two runs over 1/3 inning to finish the game.

The Huron offense put together 10 hits, including four extra base knocks.

Lien had a triple and a single. Kranzler and Hernandez each had a double and a single. Grace had a pair of singles. Rogers added a double.

Brookings pitcher Parker Winghart stifled the Huron bats in the nightcap, shutting out Post 7 in a 6-0 win.

Wenzel opened the game on the mound, going 2 1/3 innings, allowing six runs and striking out two.

Kolby Hofer tossed 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out four.

The Huron offense managed just one hit and a pair of walks in the game.

Post 7’s record is now 8-13 with the next game on the schedule on Tuesday on the road against Watertown for a doubleheader, beginning at 5 p.m.
