JVC boys claim championship at Miller Invitational

MILLER — Branden Held and Darrian Hood finished second and fourth, respectively, to help James Valley Christian to the boys’ team title during the Miller Cross Country Invitational on Monday on Miller Golf Course.
The Vikings finished with a team total of 14 points to edge Ipswich by three points for the title.
Crow Creek was third with 24, followed by Miller at 42 and Redfield-Doland at 43.
Rounding out the field of teams in the boys’ standings were Aberdeen Christian at 46, Wessington Springs at 63 and Wolsey-Wessington at 82.
With the top two runners in the field, Ipswich claimed the girls’ team title with 12 points. Kimball/White Lake was second at 19, followed by JVC at 30.

Potter County was fourth at 41, followed by Redfield-Doland at 47, Aberdeen Christian at 48, Miller at 81 and Wolsey-Wessington at 85.
Jarret Haven of Northwestern won the varsity boys’ race with a time of 17:45.38.
Held turned in a time of 17:51.10 to claim the second spot, while Trevin McBride of Crow Creek was third at 17:53.55.
Rounding out the top five were Hood in the fourth spot at 17:55.70 and Wyatt Haux of Ipswich at 18:08.73.
Jace Burma of Sunshine Bible Academy was seventh at 18:21.74, while Reilly Schmitt of Redfield-Doland was eighth at 18:22.91 and Christopher Hass of SBA was ninth at 18:30.60.
Ipswich teammates Aleah Steger and Tessa Kilber were first and second, respectively, in the varsity girls’ race with times of 20:00.35 and 20:27.47.
Madelynn Brantner of James Valley Christian was third at 20:43.30, followed by Peyton Groft of Northwestern at 21:08.40 and Sidney McCord of Kimball/White Lake at 21:24.56.
