ABERDEEN — Lyle “Tuffy” Vernon Orr, 80, of Aberdeen, formerly of Wessington, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 at home surrounded by his family.
His memorial service was held Thursday, April 20. A private family interment will take place in Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Aberdeen at a later date.
Lyle Vernon Orr was born October 23, 1936, in Murdo to Rex and Selma (Anderson) Orr. The family moved to the Wessington area where he attended and graduated from Wessington High School in 1955.
He was united in marriage to Betty Harrington June 17, 1956. The couple moved from Wessington to Aberdeen in 1965, where he became employed by North Western Public Service for 34 years. He developed a passion for hunting deer and elk and was very active in the Brown County Sportsman’s Club. He participated in the Senior Olympics at both the state and national level.
He is survived by his children, Denise (Ray) Huber, and David Orr; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; siblings, Shirley Duxbury, Madge (Al) Perez, Keith (Jan) Orr, and Ilene (Stan) Burmood; and many friends, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard Orr and Kip Orr; and brother-in-law, Jack Duxbury.
In lieu of flower’s, Tuffy’s family would prefer a donation to the Brown County Sportsman’s Club.
