HOWARD — Marion Esther Lauer, 87, of Howard, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018, at Madison Community Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 7, at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Howard with burial to follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Howard. Visitation will be Monday at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Scripture service at 7pm.
Marion was born on September 26, 1930, near Argonne to Rieka and Hobart McNames. She attended Argonne Country School near Howard graduating in 1948. After graduation, she worked in K&K Department Store, and then the ASCS office in Howard for 30 years and retired in June of 1988.
She was united in marriage to Gene Lauer October 26, 1950. She was active in the community and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years, donating one of her beautiful quilts each year. Quilting was a love of hers and the number of quilts she stitched by hand are too numerous to count. She was a volunteer on the Miner County Ambulance Service, Civic League, and helped at church funerals. She was an avid Twins fan and she and Gene attended a Twins game to celebrate their 60th anniversary and were on the big screen at the game.
She is survived by her children, Mike of Wentworth, Brenda (Brad) Oswald of Flandreau, Randy (Cyndi) of Portland, and Susan (Jim) of Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband (2014); one brother; and one sister.
