MINOT, N.D. — Mary Jane Burger, 96, passed away December 3, 2017, at Trinity Homes in Minot.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Friday, December 8, in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery at Mandan. Cremation has taken place.
Mary Jane was born November 30, 1921, in Huron, to John and Minnie (Schultz) Hollarbush. She attended school in Huron and following her high school graduation, she served in W.A.V.E.S (Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Services) during WWII. After this she attended college on the GI Bill in Huron and graduated Cum Laude and completed her graduate work at the University of South Dakota. She then taught school in Huron for seven years, and then moved to Bismarck, where she taught at Riverside Elementary School, retiring in 1985.
She was united in marriage to Myron Burger in 1961, and the couple enjoyed traveling together extensively. She had been on every continent with the exception of Antarctica. She also spent a lot of time reading, knitting and gardening with Myron … he grew it, and she took care of it.
She is survived by her children, Natalie (Neil) Wrangham of Perham, Minn., and son, Gordon (Jane) Upton of Surrey, N.D.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron; one brother; and two sisters.
